Book Fair

Here is a link to the Book Fair website and Online Fair http://bit.ly/bookfair1

On Tuesday, November 24, each class will come to the library media center to preview the book fair. This will give them a chance to see what books are available.

The Book Fair will be November 30- December 4 M-Th 7:30-2:30 & Fri 7:30-12

Teachers sign up to bring their classes to the book fair throughout the week so they can browse and shop. Each class will come 1 time. If a student brings money on a different day, they will be allowed to come down to the media center and shop for books. Parents are invited to come during their child's class time or any other time during Fair hours! You can check the Satchel Ford website to see what time your child’s class will visit the Book Fair.  If sending a check, please make it out to Satchel Ford Elementary PTO.

The ONLINE Book Fair is open now and is available 24/7 through December 5. The link is above. All purchases made on the website will be shipped to the school once the fair is over and will be sent home with the child.

The Satchel Ford Library receives profits from the Book Fair in books and cash. Monies received from the Fair go towards purchasing new books and eBooks for the Media Center.

District Seeking Parent Input on Language Immersion Program

Richland One is exploring the possibility of starting a language immersion program next school year, and district administrators want to know what parents think of that idea.

Unlike a foreign language class, in a language immersion program, all or a significant portion of the academic day is taught in another language, including core subjects such as math, science and social studies.

“Students wouldn’t speak English; they would speak that target language from the beginning of that period of time until the end of that period of time. They truly would be immersed in that language,” said Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon.

The district is seeking input from parents to gauge their level of interest in a language immersion program and to find out which languages they would be interested in their children learning through the program. Richland One parents are encouraged to take the survey, which will be open through November 10, 2015.

The class with the most participation between now and December will receive a “cool” treat!

From the Principal

Welcome back to another great year at Satchel Ford Elementary School!  It's so exciting to be part of a distinguished institution of learning, where ALL children can be a STAR in both academics and the arts!

Last year, Satchel Ford saw much development and evolution in the areas of mathematics instruction, scientific inquiry, and the effective integration of instructional technology in support of student learning.  I look forward to overseeing and supporting continued positive change in our school, while honoring and preserving the rich traditions of Satchel Ford’s tremendous history of success in our community.  To that end, this year our primary areas of focus and development will be inquiry-based, S.T.E.M.-oriented mathematics and science instruction, the full implementation of reading workshop and purposeful independent reading models in our ELA classrooms, and the continued enhancement of digital learning opportunities for children.  All of this academic development will be enveloped in a meaningful and creative cultural arts program.  In short, we're an awesome school, but we're striving to become even better!

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or compliments, please don’t hesitate to call me, send me an email, or simply drop by and speak with me for a few moments.  It takes all of us working together to build successful young adults!  Remember, …my door is always open.

Mr. H
