Daily Announcements

Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten orientation will be held on Friday, February 3rd at 9am.
If you know of anyone who will have a child in Satchel Ford Kindergarten during the 2012-2013 school year, please let them know about this meeting.

Parents will receive information about the kindergarten program, meet the kindergarten teachers and tour the school.  Registration packets will be available.  In order to register a child for kindergarten, parents will need to have the child's birth certificate, shot record, and two proofs of residency such as current utility bills and/or lease agreement.  Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible to enable the school administration to plan for next school year.

VIP Day Is February 10th

A very special day at Satchel Ford is coming Friday, February 10th. Children will be inviting their “VIP” to come visit them at school. It is a fun day that has been a huge hit with our guests and the children for years now. We will have MANY guests that day; grandparents, parents, neighbors and friends.

Stephanie Morris, along with Tracy Dixon from Student Nutritional Services, has written a grant to increase awareness of nutrition/ healthy eating habits as well as ways to increase physical activity.  Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60) is a national program sponsored by the NFL, the National Dairy Association and the US Dept. of Agriculture.  The program awards grant funds to help promote schools' initiatives to encourage students to make better and more healthy food choices as well as exercising at least 60 minutes per day.  Although just about all schools in Richland One have signed up to participate in FUTP60, Satchel Ford is the first to complete the application and be awarded the full grant of $4,000!  This Kick-off is to educate the students about FUTP 60, both the nutritional “plays” as well as the physical activity “plays.”

From the Principal

Welcome to Satchel Ford Elementary School , the home of the Satchel Ford Braves.  There are so many aspects of Satchel Ford that I am so proud to share with you.  We are very proud of our academic achievement, our fine arts programs and our parent involvement.

We are very proud of our academic achievement.  Satchel Ford made AYP, Adequate Yearly Progress, for the 2010-2011 school year.  Adequate Yearly Progress , or AYP, is a measurement defined by the United States federal No Child Left Behind Act that allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests .  Each year the level of academic achievement is increased, making achieving this recognition more difficult.  At the state level, Satchel Ford has earned an Excellent Absolute rating for the percentage of students who pass the state PASS test and an Excellent Growth rating for the percentage of students who made improvement on the PASS test from the previous year.

Since 2004, Satchel Ford has been recognized as an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) School by the South Carolina Arts Commission and continues to be awarded this designation through a grant writing cycle.  Satchel Ford has been a six year recipient of the SC State Department of Educations Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) grant.    The Brave Arts Steering Committee, an organization of parents and teachers, oversees the implementation of the grant and continues to be a strong advocate of arts education in our school.

Satchel Ford has a very active PTO and SIC (School Improvement Council) who work diligently to make Satchel Ford the best school.

I hope you enjoy our website and visit the teacher web pages.  Should you have questions, please call our main office at 803-738-7209.
